  • Account and Profile Data: Information you provide when creating an account or using features (e.g., name, email, settings).
  • Essay Content: Essays, drafts, prompts, feedback requests, and associated metadata you upload or create within Essium. Essium stores each essay you create or submit.

  • AI Processing Data: Prompts and outputs sent to and from AI providers via OpenRouter to power essay analysis and feedback.

2. How We Use Information

We use your information to:

  • Provide, maintain, and improve the Service and its AI features;
  • Store and display your essays and related materials to you inside your account;
  • Analyze usage to improve reliability, performance, and product quality;
  • Detect, prevent, and address technical issues and abuse;
  • Communicate with you about updates, security, and support.

3. AI Providers and OpenRouter

We route AI requests through OpenRouter to model providers, currently including partners at xAI and Cerebras. To our knowledge, these providers do not train on user data. However, we do not control third-party systems and policies may change. Please review OpenRouter and the model providers' policies.

4. Analytics

We use PostHog, Vercel Analytics, and proprietary analytics software owned by Testra to collect precise usage analytics. These tools help us understand feature usage, performance, and reliability to improve your experience. Where applicable, these analytics may set cookies or collect device data consistent with their respective policies.

5. Data Storage and Location

All data is stored within the United States. Information is stored in Neon database and/or Vercel infrastructure.

6. Data Sharing

We do not sell your personal information. We share information with service providers and subprocessors who help us operate the Service (e.g., hosting, analytics, AI routing). We require such providers to handle data consistent with applicable law and our instructions.

7. Data Retention

We retain your information for as long as needed to provide the Service, comply with legal obligations, resolve disputes, and enforce our agreements. You may request deletion of your account and essays, subject to certain limitations.

8. Your Choices

  • Account Controls: You can access and update certain account information from your settings.
  • Deletion: You can request deletion of your account and associated essays, subject to legal or operational retention needs.

The Service is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If we learn that we have collected such information, we will take steps to delete it.

11. International Users

The Service is operated and data is stored in the United States. If you access the Service from outside the U.S., you consent to the transfer and processing of your information in the U.S. and to U.S. laws.
